Working for Minnesota's 1st District
I have dedicated my career to serving the country I love. I will fight to expand the middle class, create jobs with dignity, and keep our communities and children safe.
Priorities for Minnesota’s 1st District
Agriculture
As a fourth-generation farmer raising the fifth, it is the honor of my lifetime to represent the men and women of southern Minnesota who wake up early and work late to produce the highest-quality, most affordable food supply in the world.
Agriculture is one of the most honorable professions our country has to offer and remains the backbone of our communities across southern Minnesota. In Congress, I am committed to advancing strong farm policy that is written by farmers for farmers, and by rural communities for rural communities.
I know firsthand that farmers are the best stewards of the land, because their livelihoods depend on it. That’s why federal policy must avoid creating unnecessary or burdensome obstacles for agriculture. My top priority is ensuring that our rural and farm communities always have a seat at the table in Washington.
Armed Services
Minnesota plays a vital role in our nation’s defense, with top military contractors like 3M, Honeywell, Polaris, Medtronic, Mayo Clinic, and others headquartered in our state. In addition, nearly 13,000 soldiers and airmen serving in the Minnesota National Guard strengthen our medical, communications, security, aviation, engineering, and transportation capabilities.
We must continue to ensure that our aerospace and defense industries build on Minnesota’s tradition of innovation, excellence, and skilled workforce to advance America’s national security.
Maintaining America’s competitiveness is central to Peace Through Strength. That means bolstering our defense industrial base, reshoring and diversifying supply chains, and making strong investments in innovation to secure U.S. leadership around the globe.
Southern Minnesota is especially well positioned to support force readiness, combat and emergency medicine, research, and innovation. Healthy troops are mission-ready troops, and the lifesaving care we provide our servicemembers, whether on the battlefield or at home, often paves the way for groundbreaking medical technologies that benefit not only our veterans after a lifetime of service, but also communities across the country.

Congress
The Constitution grants Congress the power of the purse, yet too often this responsibility has been neglected in Washington. Instead of passing responsible budgets and stand-alone appropriations bills, Congress has increasingly relied on continuing resolutions and last-minute, catch-all spending packages just to keep the government running.
Taxpayers deserve better. It is past time for Congress to return to regular order and deliver responsible, balanced budgets that reflect the needs of the American people without adding to our already unsustainable national debt.
In Congress, I remain committed to putting people ahead of bureaucracy and to ensuring government operates as efficiently and responsibly as possible for southern Minnesotans.
Economy
American families have been struggling under the weight of high inflation and the rising cost of living, driven in large part by reckless spending and failed economic policies pushed by Democrats in Washington. These choices have strained household budgets, hurt small businesses, and made it harder for Minnesotans to get ahead.
In Congress, I have focused on ensuring our economy works for Main Streets and rural communities across southern Minnesota. Serving on the House Committee on Small Business, I have worked directly with business owners to advance pro-growth policies that reduce red tape and strengthen our local economy.
I have also prioritized responsible spending to bring fiscal discipline back to Washington. I will continue fighting for balanced budgets and pro-business reforms that protect taxpayers today and ensure future generations are able to thrive and prosper.
Education
As a father of seven children who span multiple levels of our education system, I understand the vital importance of a strong education. Yet, Democrat efforts to shut parents out of decision-making are unacceptable. Parents and schools should work together, but at the end of the day, these are your children, not the government’s. I firmly believe our students will be better served when education decisions are made at the state and local level, not dictated by a one-size-fits-all federal bureaucracy.
At the postsecondary level, student loan debt has spiraled out of control, leaving graduates unable to secure high-paying jobs that keep up with their obligations. It’s clear the federal system has failed, pushing young people into debt while colleges fail to adapt to the needs of our workforce. Real reform means restoring control to states and local communities, encouraging affordable and innovative opportunities, and ensuring education aligns with the speed of business and the aspirations of our students.
Energy
Reliable, affordable energy is essential to both our economy and our national security. Following the election of President Trump, America has made important progress in strengthening our energy independence and diversifying our supply with homegrown resources. Investments in nuclear, oil, natural gas, renewables, and next-generation technologies are helping us reduce reliance on foreign adversaries for our energy needs.
Minnesotans know better than most that we can harness our natural resources responsibly while protecting our environment. From biofuels to mining and advanced manufacturing, relying on our neighbors to spur energy development and innovation can power our communities, create jobs, and safeguard our future.
By restoring American energy independence, we can remain at the forefront of energy technology, production, and exports, ensuring our nation remains energy secure while safeguarding our environment for generations to come.
Health
Home to the Mayo Clinic, Minnesota’s First Congressional District – and the state as a whole – is a hub for healthcare innovation. From device manufacturing, technological advancements, and research to a high-quality standard of patient care, Minnesota’s health care system should be a roadmap for the rest of the country. We must maintain this standard while continuing to increase access to care, especially throughout rural Minnesota.
Too many rural communities still face barriers to accessing timely, affordable care. We must not only preserve Minnesota’s reputation for excellence but also expand it by strengthening rural hospitals and clinics, supporting the health care workforce in underserved areas, and investing in telehealth and innovative solutions that bring care closer to home.
Veterans
As a member of Congress, I am committed to providing those who sacrificed so much for our nation with a voice in Washington. Too often, our veterans get caught up in an overburdensome, overregulated VA system that, though well-intentioned, can sometimes leave them behind.
Our veterans have dedicated their lives to protecting our freedoms, and we have a solemn duty to ensure they receive the highest quality care, resources, and support as they transition to civilian life. They have earned these benefits through their service and sacrifice, and I am committed to cutting through the red tape that too often turns this transition into an unnecessary struggle.
