WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Brad Finstad (MN-01) and Congressman George Latimer (NY-16), members of the House Committee on Small Business, applauded the full committee passage of H.R. 8881, the SBA Artificial Intelligence Utilization Act of 2026. This legislation would require the Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator to submit an annual report to Congress on the agency’s use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning.
“In a time of increasing amounts of accessible artificial intelligence, it’s important to ensure our government agencies adopt AI responsibly and transparently,” said Rep. Finstad. “My legislation, the SBA Artificial Intelligence Utilization Act of 2026, requires the SBA to report its use of AI and machine learning within their operations, while also assessing the advantages and risks.”
Finstad continued, “Thank you to my House Committee on Small Business colleagues for passing this important legislation that will help Congress better understand AI implementation within agency operations.”
“I am proud to join Congressman Finstad in introducing the SBA Artificial Intelligence Utilization Act of 2026. In a time of curiosity and apprehension about the future of AI and machine learning, this legislation would require SBA to annually report to Congress on how it is using these technologies and what the agency can do to most effectively manage its benefits and risks. I look forward to collaborating on this legislation to provide necessary oversight and accountability mechanisms that foster public trust in government as we move further into the intelligence age,” said Rep. Latimer.
