WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Brad Finstad (MN-01) joined the Minnesota Republican congressional delegation in sending a letter to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz demanding answers regarding alleged fraud within the Minnesota Department of Human Services’ Housing Stabilization Services (HSS) program.

The lawmakers wrote, in part:

“As Minnesota is facing a projected $6 billion deficit, this continued pattern of fraud in Minnesota is completely unacceptable. We ask that you provide us with the relevant information about how this fraud transpired under your administration’s watch, steps you are taking to rectify the situation, and your plans to prevent future fraud within the HSS program.”

Background:
Minnesota’s HSS program was created in 2020 and was designed to assist seniors and disabled individuals in securing housing. The program recently came under scrutiny after federal agents raided multiple homes and businesses as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of fraud within the program.

The HSS program was initially expected to cost Minnesota taxpayers $2.6 million per year. However, total claims rose to $104 million in 2024 and have already exceeded $60 million in the first 7 months of 2025.

The letter is the latest effort by the Minnesota Republican congressional delegation to hold Governor Tim Walz and his administration accountable for the startling pattern of fraud and mismanagement in taxpayer-funded programs.
