WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Brad Finstad (MN-01) and Congresswoman Kelly Morrison (MN-03) reintroduced the Pathways to Policing Act, bipartisan legislation that would address law enforcement staffing shortages by authorizing funding for the Department of Justice (DOJ) to run programs that strengthen the recruitment pipeline for prospective law enforcement officers.

“Law enforcement agencies in Minnesota and across the nation are experiencing staffing shortages that jeopardize the safety and security of our communities,” said Rep. Finstad. “As we celebrate National Police Week, I am proud to help reintroduce the Pathways to Policing Act, which will deliver critical resources to strengthen officer recruitment and help reduce obstacles that may discourage qualified candidates from pursuing a career in law enforcement.”

“With many police departments facing staffing shortages, we need to make sure we’re creating more pathways to recruit new police officers in the Third District and across the state,” said Rep. Morrison. “This bill will provide state and local law enforcement with the tools they need to build strong, dedicated, and talented police forces to protect their communities.”

This legislation is supported by the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association, Major Cities Chiefs Association, and the National Fraternal Order of Police.
