Finstad’s Save SBA from Sanctuary Cities Act Passes House Committee on Small Business
April 30, 2025
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Brad Finstad (MN-01) released the following statement after the Save SBA from Sanctuary Cities Act, legislation that he introduced, passed in the House Committee on Small Business:
“Small businesses are the backbone of our communities, providing jobs and economic development opportunities,” said Rep. Finstad. “Sanctuary jurisdictions, however, pose a serious safety concern that puts our communities at risk. This legislation takes an important step toward redirecting federal resources away from jurisdictions that disregard our laws and toward communities that prioritize the safety and needs of American citizens. I’m proud that my colleagues on the House Committee on Small Business voted to pass the Save SBA from Sanctuary Cities Act, taking a stand against the failed policies of Democrat-run cities.”
"For decades, sanctuary cities have disregarded federal law without consequence, resulting in violence and heartbreak for American citizens. Many of these lawless cities have put the SBA offices at risk,” said Chairman Roger Williams. “I want to thank Rep. Finstad for introducing the Save SBA from Sanctuary Cities Act, which passed out of Committee today. This important piece of legislation will move SBA offices out of sanctuary cities and into safer, pro-business, pro-America municipalities that believe in the rule of law.”
Background:
Representative Finstad introduced the Save SBA from Sanctuary Cities Act earlier this month. Specifically, this legislation:
- Ensures that SBA offices are not located in sanctuary jurisdictions. If an office is currently in a state that is not a sanctuary jurisdiction, it will be relocated to another area within that same state.
- Requires the Administrator to make a public determination on the relocation of offices within 120 days of the passage of this legislation.
The Save SBA from Sanctuary Cities Act defines “sanctuary jurisdiction” as any state or political subdivision of a state that has in effect policies that prohibit or restrict immigration enforcement.
