WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Congressman Brad Finstad (MN-01), Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach (MN-07), Majority Whip Tom Emmer (MN-06), and Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) sent a letter urging Governor Tim Walz to issue a Major Disaster Declaration Request for the areas across Minnesota that have been affected by recent flooding.

“I have been traveling around southern Minnesota to meet with local officials and assess the damage caused by the recent catastrophic flooding. As I talk with community members across the First District, it is clear that the extent of the damage is severe and has significantly affected the lives and livelihoods of thousands across southern Minnesota,” said Rep. Finstad.  “My Republican colleagues and I are urging Governor Walz to act swiftly and request a Federal Disaster Declaration, which will provide our communities with the resources they need to recover and rebuild.”

In part, the letter reads:

"The damage from this flooding has impacted many Minnesotan families. Homes, businesses, community buildings, and public areas are under water. We ask that you immediately request a Major Disaster Declaration to help unlock federal resources for these people," the letter reads. "Once your request is submitted, we will also call on President Biden and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to act swiftly to approve your request and get these resources to our state."

If you have been impacted by the flooding, contact Congressman Finstad’s office for assistance by visiting Finstad.house.gov or by calling (507) 577-6140.
