WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Congressman Brad Finstad (MN-01) issued a statement after President Biden granted a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of Minnesota, releasing federal funds to aid in the recovery efforts for numerous communities across the First District:

“I have spoken with local officials in southern Minnesota, heard from emergency personnel and business owners, and visited communities that are trying to rebuild after the catastrophic flooding,” said Rep. Finstad. “This federal assistance provides our communities with the resources they need to build resilient infrastructure, mitigate damages caused by flooding, provide emergency services, and safeguard against future repetitive flood destruction. I am grateful that President Biden has granted Governor Walz's request for this much-needed assistance, and I will continue to work with local officials to ensure people in Minnesota’s First District have what they need to get back on their feet as quickly as possible.”

The announcement comes after Congressman Finstad and the Minnesota delegation in both the U.S. House and Senate urged the Biden Administration to approve Minnesota’s request for a Major Disaster Declaration, which will provide communities with resources from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Congressman Finstad met with local leaders in Minnesota’s First District earlier this week to discuss the damage caused by the historic flooding that occurred throughout the state. On Monday, Minnesota House Republicans sent a letter urging the Governor to request a Major Disaster Declaration to provide affected communities with the resources needed to rebuild and recover.
