Press Releases

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Brad Finstad (MN-01), Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach (MN-07), and Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) issued a joint statement reflecting on yesterday’s public memorial in honor of fallen Burnsville police officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge, and firefighter-paramedic Adam Finseth:

“Yesterday’s memorial service was a moving tribute to three of Minnesota’s Finest, a somber moment for all of us in the community to mourn the lives of these brave men and pay our respects to their families and fellow officers.

“The tragic loss of three beloved family members and respected community leaders is a grim reminder that our law enforcement and first responders put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities.

“In recent years, we’ve seen unprecedented attacks on our law enforcement community. The reckless “Defund the Police” movement has emboldened criminals and fueled anti-police rhetoric, worsening the grave danger our first responders face when they put on the uniform.

“It is incumbent upon all of us to do everything we can to make sure those who serve and protect know how much we appreciate them. These three public servants understood the call to duty, ran toward the danger, and in doing so made the ultimate sacrifice; a debt that can never be repaid.

“In Congress, we will continue to stand in strong support of our law enforcement and first responders, ensuring we do everything possible for them to do their job safely and effectively.

“We will never forget the heroic service and sacrifice of these men and the impact they have made on so many of us across Minnesota. We continue to pray for the fallen, their families, and the communities they served.”
