WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Brad Finstad (MN-01) issued the following statement after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced it will issue a waiver for the sale of E15 gasoline during the summer driving months. The waiver will go into effect on May 1^st, allowing terminals to continue selling E15.

“Amidst growing inflation and rising gas prices, Minnesota families depend on biofuels like E15 as a low-cost, environmentally friendly fuel option,” said Rep. Finstad. “While the Biden Administration should have issued a waiver for the summer sale of E15 weeks ago, I am glad that our biofuel producers, fuel retailers, and consumers now have some certainty going into the summer travel season. I will continue to press the administration to make E15 available year-round, lowering gas prices, and helping to end our reliance on foreign countries for our energy needs.” 

The EPA’s announcement comes after Congressman Finstad and Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) led a bipartisan, bicameral group of 30 members in sending a letter to the EPA and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), urging the agencies to quickly implement their outstanding regulatory action on a request made by several Midwest state governors to lift restrictions on the year-round sale of ethanol.
