Finstad Votes No on Government Surveillance and Woke Military Funding in FY24 NDAA
December 14, 2023
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Brad Finstad (MN-01) issued the following statement after voting no on the passage of FY24 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which extends federal powers to surveil civilians and keeps funding in place for the far Left’s woke ideology.
“Earlier this year, I was proud to vote for a strong NDAA passed by House Republicans which kept the commitments made to our servicemen and women while also making critical investments in our national defense,” said Rep. Finstad.
“The House-passed version also put an end to taxpayer-funded abortion travel, transgender surgeries, and President Biden’s radical climate agenda in our nation’s military. Unfortunately, the Senate chose to strip these provisions and instead used the NDAA to implement its far-left agenda by continuing to fund these woke policies.
Rep. Finstad continued, “Additionally, rather than taking the opportunity to reform FISA, an intelligence program with a known record of government abuse, the legislation that was passed today includes an extension of Section 702 with no reforms, allowing President Biden’s intelligence community to continue surveilling American citizens without a warrant.
“I strongly support our men and women in uniform and am committed to making sure they have the resources they need to keep our country safe from growing threats at home and abroad. Unfortunately, the bill brought to the House Floor today does more to fund radical policies in the Department of Defense than it does to help our servicemen and women, which is why I voted against it."
