Finstad Joins 195 House Republicans on Letter Opposing New Biden Administration WOTUS Rule
January 26, 2023
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Brad Finstad (MN-01) joined 195 fellow House Republicans in a letter led by Congressional Western Caucus Chairman Dan Newhouse (WA-04) opposing the Biden Administration’s new final rule defining “waters of the United States” (WOTUS) under the Clean Water Act.
Congressman Finstad and his fellow cosigners on the letter urge the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to rescind the rule and postpone any subsequent agency action on WOTUS to allow the Supreme Court to issue an opinion on Sackett v EPA.
“This is the fourth WOTUS change in the last three administrations," said Congressman Finstad. “Farming families and rural landowners don’t need the federal government causing unnecessary confusion with burdensome regulations on every stream, puddle, and creek on their land. As a farmer myself, I stand in strong support with my colleagues in demanding this rule be rescinded, and I will continue to stand up to this administration’s regulatory overreach that puts undue restrictions and uncertainty on our farmers’ land-use rights.”
“I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, WOTUS is the most egregious federal overreach this nation has ever faced,” said Chairman Dan Newhouse (WA-04). “Every farmer, rancher, or property owner who moves dirt will be harmed by this rule. This letter emphasizes House Republicans’ commitment to fighting back against this overreach and representing the voices of our constituents who are united against this rulemaking.”
