Finstad Statement on the FY23 National Defense Authorization Act
December 9, 2022
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Brad Finstad (MN-01) issued the following statement after the House passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2023.
Congressman Finstad voted in support of the legislation saying, “The NDAA is critical legislation that funds our military and makes the necessary investments that prioritize our national defense. This year’s NDAA delivers a strong defense budget, which is why I was proud to support it,” said Congressman Finstad.
“The FY23 NDAA increases defense spending by $45 billion, ensuring that our military readiness will not be compromised because of inflation. Additionally, it repeals the COVID-19 vaccination mandate for servicemembers, includes a well-deserved pay raise for our men and women in uniform, and provides targeted funding to offset soaring food and housing costs for military families.
“Yet, President Biden and Democrats in Congress have again attempted to politicize this year’s NDAA, using it as a means to advance their “woke” agenda. I am proud that the House defeated provisions that would further the Left’s extremism, such as requiring women to register with Selective Service, spending Department of Defense resources on climate change, and expanding availability of abortion services on military bases.
“I voted in support of the NDAA because politics should never interfere with our national defense. I am glad that members in both parties could come together to deliver robust funding that will ensure our military continues to be the best in the world by modernizing our defense systems, improving military readiness, and equipping our service men and women with the resources they need to keep our country safe.”
