WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Brad Finstad (MN-01) announced his cosponsorship of H.R. 9523, the Government Office Realignment and Closure (GORAC) Act of 2022, introduced by Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne (TX-24). This legislation would contract a third-party auditor to locate duplicative, wasteful, or outdated functions within federal executive agencies. The auditor would then share its recommendations with Congress, so action can be taken to reduce waste and save taxpayer dollars.

"We have seen where wasteful government spending has gotten us," said Rep. Van Duyne. "Our national debt just passed $31 trillion and inflation is at a 41-year high. Hardworking Americans deserve better – that is why I introduced GORAC, which will drastically reduce the wasteful spending that's been lost in the bog of our bloated federal government and instead put it towards lowering our national debt."

“We owe it to our children to leave our country in better financial shape than we found it,” said Rep. Finstad. “Millions of taxpayer dollars go out the door every year because of wasteful government spending. The Government Office Realignment and Closure Act is a commonsense way to identify where wasteful spending exists and redirect those funds toward driving down our national debt.”

This bill is supported by Americans for Tax Reform:

“The Biden Administration has not controlled waste and fraud within the federal government," said Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform. "Congresswoman Van Duyne introduced legislation that requires an independent auditor to do what Biden would not do – find, expose, and uproot fraud and waste. This legislation is needed now. Soon. Yesterday."
