ROCHESTER, MN – Today, Congressman Brad Finstad (MN-01) sent a letter to District Manager of the United States Postal Service’s Minnesota-North Dakota District Angela Bye, requesting clarity and increased communication following the closure of the Glenville Post Office.
On June 28, 2026, a vehicle struck the Glenville Post Office, causing damage to the front of the building. The next day, Postal Service operations were halted and customers were informed mail could be picked up at the Albert Lea Post Office, about seven miles away. Since then, city officials and residents of Glenville have received minimal updates on a reopening date or timeline of resumed operations.
The letter reads:
“Dear District Manager Bye,
“I am writing regarding the continued closure of the Glenville Post Office located at 220 W. Main Street in Glenville, Minnesota following a vehicle collision that damaged the building. I am concerned about the length of the closure and the impact it is having on residents, businesses, and other postal customers in the Glenville community. It is important that you communicate clearly with the City of Glenville about the timeline and process of reopening the post office.
“On June 28, 2026, a vehicle struck the Glenville Post Office building, leaving damage to the front of the building. Since then, the Postal Service has halted operations at this location with no indication to the local community on the status of restoring postal operations. Residents should not be left without convenient access to postal services for an extended and indefinite period, particularly without clear information about what is being done to restore services.
“Numerous constituents of mine have contacted my office stating that they have had no correspondence with the Postal Service on a reopening date or a timeline for resumed operations. While I understand that unforeseen circumstances can complicate the repair of a damaged postal facility, the residents of Glenville deserve transparency regarding the status of their post office and a clear understanding of when normal service will return.
“Local residents rely on their Post Office for essential mailing services. This includes receiving medications, bill payments, stamps, shipping packages, and regular correspondence. Further, this closure can have a profound impact on Glenville’s Main Street businesses that rely on the Post Office to connect with customers and remain competitive.
“I respectfully request information on the following questions:
- What is the current status of the Glenville Post Office following the vehicle collision?
- What repairs or other corrective actions are required before the facility can reopen?
- How is the Postal Service communicating with the City of Glenville about the closure and anticipated reopening, and how will you communicate with City officials going forward?
- What temporary measures has USPS implemented to ensure Glenville residents continue to have reasonable access to postal services?
“I respectfully urge USPS to work with the local postmaster to reopen the Glenville Post Office as soon as possible and keep the local community informed on the steps being taken to do so. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
